DISCRIMINATION OF HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA FROM CIRRHOTIC NODULES BY AgNOR STAIN
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Discrimination of regenerative cirrhotic nodules of the liver (CN) from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is sometimes difficult. We examined the utility of AgNOR staining in this context. Fifteen cases of HCC and 25 cases of CN were stained by AgNOR method and the mean AgNOR number for one hundred nuclei in each case was determined. There was a significant difference between the mean AgNOR counts in CN (6.63±4.00) and HCC (11.36±2.88) (p<0.0005). Discriminant analysis showed that all HCC cases and over 90% of CN could be correctly distinguished by this method. It seems that AgNOR staining is an accurate and readily available tool for differentiating CN from HCC.

متن کاملHepatocellular Carcinoma Arising in Non-Cirrhotic Haemochromatosis
Hepatocellular carcinoma arising in a patient with genetic haemachromatosis, without cirrhosis, has only been described once previously. We present a patient with a 15 year history of genetic haemachromatosis who underwent resection of a hepatocellular carcinoma in a liver with normal architecture.
متن کاملNonlinear tumor evolution from dysplastic nodules to hepatocellular carcinoma
Dysplastic nodules are premalignant neoplastic nodules found in explanted livers with cirrhosis. Genetic signatures of premalignant dysplastic nodules (DNs) with concurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) may provide an insight in the molecular evolution of hepatocellular carcinogenesis. We analyzed four patients with multifocal nodular lesions and cirrhotic background by whole-exome sequencing ...

متن کاملDiagnostic evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma in a cirrhotic liver.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the world's most common cancers. It is closely associated with cirrhosis, especially that due to viral hepatitis. The incidences of viral hepatitis and HCC are rising steadily in the United States. When symptomatic, HCC is usually unresectable and associated with a median survival of less than 6 months. Nodular lesions of undetermined malignant potential...
متن کاملSpontaneous partial regression of hepatocellular carcinoma in a cirrhotic patient.
Spontaneous regression of a malignant tumor is an exceptional phenomenon. A 56-year-old woman with liver cirrhosis related to chronic hepatitis C presented with a liver tumor. Partial regression of a hepatocellular carcinoma was diagnosed by imaging studies that showed progressive diminution of the size of the tumor and changes in the tumor markers. However, because of the persistence of the tu...
